Adhesive Application for Filter Rod Making
Kaymich manufacturers a complete array of hot and cold adhesive- application systems for high or low speed filter rod making including both mono-acetate and multi-segment filters.
1) GFH1000 Gravity Fed Hot Melt Adhesive Application System
- Applies hot melt adhesive and PVA to filter rods
Key Features:
- Gravity fed application uses minimum adhesive to create a fast bond, reducing lap slippage and improving diameter control. Up to 40% less hot melt applied compared to pump fed system when running porous paper
- Up to 70% reduction of tow waste during start up, from 18lbs to 5lbs (2kg) as the start-up procedure is significantly reduced
- Low maintenance system
- Stepped temperature control through the tank, hose and applicator prevents hot melt charring in the tank, reducing stoppage for rod break-outs and reject filters.
- Configurations of hot melt side seam, supplementary PVA and tow retention
- Automatic retracting paper guide set in motion on machine start up and stop to present the paper to the applicators and provide easy access for paper threading.
- Modular back plate and simple valve seeing with horizontal and vertical adjustment.
- Eliminates bleed-through, reducing downtime for cleaning, increasing production speed by as much as 200m per minute when running highly porous paper, leading to increased machine efficiency
- Carbide coated nozzle tip for long life
- Increasing production efficiency, through the reduction in stoppage for cleaning and paper breaks.
- Automatic retracting paper guides remove paper from applicator on machine stop, eliminating paper break on restart.

2) FTS2000 Filter Tow Spray Retention System
- Applies PVA by pressure pot for tow retention in filter making
Key Features:
- Non-contact application reduces bleed-through adhesive contamination, compared to contact type applicator when using highly porous paper, improving cleanliness and decreasing stoppage for cleaning.
- Increases productivity as stoppage for applicator cleaning is reduced compared to contact applicator types.
- Pressure fed adhesive, a lower cost solution compared to pup fed options.
- Improves segment (tow) retention compared with single line applicator, reducing segment fallout
- The swirl pattern ensures a wide coverage of adhesive without significantly reducing the paper corseta. Delivers improved tow security without a significantly reducing paper porosity ( typically less than 32K reduction on 500K paper applying 0.88 g/m), decreasing cost as the paper corseta (porosity) requirement is minimized. Wide adhesive application from a single applicator. The width of the pattern can be changed but is normally around 10mm wide. Ability to apply a variety of adhesive patterns.
- A ratchet style adjuster
- Easily installed
- Low maintenance requirements
- It replaces the requirement for multiple lines of tow retention, improving filter plug quality as the distortion caused by multiple solid longitudinal lines is eliminated
- Improves filter rod quality eliminating ridges of adhesive along the rod.

3) PST Proportional Spray Tow Retention System
- Applies PVA by pressure pot or pump proportional to machine speed.
Key Features:
- Proportional application of adhesive in relation to machine speed. Not entirely linear- some minimal variation will be observed at higher speed.
- Application is consistent at any given speed.
- Non-contact application reduces bleed through adhesive contamination, compared to contact type applicator when using highly porous paper, improving cleanliness and decreasing stoppage for cleaning.
- A speed sensor monitors machine speed, spray adjusted ensuring a relatively linear amount of glue is applied.
- Nominal spray width adjustable.
- Running speed 50-600 meters per minute. High speeds may experience marginal loss of linearity, dependent upon glue specification.
- Glue weight application approximately 0.08g/meter, adjustable
- Air supply of >=5 bar required. Air regulator ensures fluctuations do not significantly affect application.
- Improves segment (tow) retention compared with single line applicator, reducing segment fallout
- The swirl pattern ensures a wide coverage of adhesive without significantly reducing the paper coresta. Delivers improved tow security without significantly reducing paper porosity (typically less than 32k reduction on 500K paper applying 0.088 g/m), decreasing cost as the paper coresta (porosity) requirement is maintained.
- Wide adhesive application from a single applicator. The width of the pattern can be changed but is normally around 10mm wide.
- Ability to apply a wide variety of adhesive patterns.
- A ratchet style adjuster.
- It replaces the requirement for multiple lines of tow retention, improving filter plug quality as the distortion caused by multiple solid longitudinal lines is eliminated
- Improves filter rod quality eliminating ridges of adhesive along the rod.
